How does Micah Parson's rookie season compare to other all time greats?

Updated: May 25, 2022

Although just being a rookie Micah Parsons is looking like a top ten defensive player in the entire league.

When Parsons was asked about his historic rookie season, Lawrence Taylor's name was brought up by reporters and Parsons replied with:

“I would definitely say it’s really too early...I could see the similarities, but L.T. was completely different, man. It’s an honor that people are doing that, but to be compared to a Hall of Famer so early on, it’s just not ready to be in the conversation yet.”

Is their truth to him being compared to Hall of Famers?

Cowboys Rookie Micah Parsons is having one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time. He was recently selected to the Pro Bowl and is the clear favorite for DROTY. With the season he is having he is not just aiming for DROTY but also DPOY. Since he has gotten to Dallas he has helped turn last year’s bottom five defense into the hottest defense in football. Parsons currently has 12 sacks(7th) and 17 tackles for loss(T-1rst) while also adding 3 forced fumbles(T-9th). Given these stats, he is having a better rookie season than players like Lawrence Taylor, Aaron Donald, Bruth Smith, Von Miller, Kevin Green and with 3 weeks left is just 3 sacks short of the rookie record. Given all this information I think it is fair to put Parsons in the same sentence with greats such as Lawrence Taylor.
