Has Steph Curry surpassed LeBron for most influential player of this generation?

Is it too early to dethrone The King?

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith posted a controversial post on his Twitter last Friday in which he says:

“Maybe it's not Lebron's legacy we should be comparing to The G.O.A.T, Michael Jordan, maybe we should instead be discussing Steph Curry versus Michael Jordan.”

As of right now, LeBron undoubtedly has cemented a greater legacy but the real question is "How far behind is Steph?". This season, the chances of Steph winning an MVP and Championship are fairly high and I would confidently lock in that, unless he were to get injured, he will be this year’s NBA MVP. If he is able to pull off the championship he will be tied with James in championships and only one MVP behind him while also being four years younger. Odds are Steph retires with fewer accolades than James, but the reason he may have a greater legacy is just based on how much he changed the game. Steph is currently #1 in all-time 3-pointers made and it does not look like anyone will be breaking that anytime soon. Yes, LeBron was a dominant force but there have been players just as dominant if not more, such as Shaquille O'Neal or Wilt Chamberlain. Steph on the other hand is far ahead of all shooters in NBA history. Although there have been other great shooters there has never been anyone that has generated as much defensive attention as Steph. He is the best shooter of all time while also being an elite ball-handler with good vision and can take the ball to the hoop if you play too high up. Steph is the poster boy for the "New NBA" which revolves around the 3-point line.

If you were a GM deciding between peak Curry and LeBron the right choice is James. He is a 6'9 PG who could guard the 1-5 while scoring 30 PPG. He could easily retire with more points scored, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, more all NBA teams, Allstars, championships, and gold medals. Although he may be better that's not what makes you more influential. Kids these days are going to the park and jacking up deep threes because the same way kids used to wanna be like Mike right now we wanna be like Curry.
